Successful Career Planning

There comes a point in the life of any professional that he or she needs to decide where is his or her career going and how to get there. Successful career planning can be a complex subject to analyze, but according to Kartikeya Sharma Pro Wrestling, it can be summarized in a few key principles:

1- Defined and clear goals: Whether you are a Junior or a Senior, it is important to know where would you like to get. Revise your interests and ambitions. This will help you to set a course. If you are passionate about something and you are willing to put in the required work to get good at it, you’ll get there.

2- Self-analysis: Do a self-audit of your knowledge, skills, and experience so that you can get a clear picture of what your career assets are and what you need to improve to get to the next level. Once you have clearly outlined them, set a plan and put into action as soon as possible.

3- Mentors: Whatever it is that you want to achieve, it is very likely that someone else has done it already. Find out who has already got to where you want to get in your field and try to model them. Learn what they have learned, practice what they have practiced, get to know who they know.

4- Decisions: Paralysis by analysis is the worst enemy of career planning. To minimize risks, it is indeed important to gather enough information before pulling the trigger. But once you have a basic plan of action in your hands, it is preferable to execute it and calibrate on course than to try to come up with a perfect career plan and never take action. Remember that perfect career plans don’t exist, and you learn and improve much more when you are doing that when you are planning.
